Living with JHS

For those of you who haven’t heard, Birchbox is a beauty subscription box received on a monthly basis, for the humble price of £10 (plus a £2.95 shipping fee). It includes four to five beauty samples, ranging from perfumes to nail varnishes to makeup to name a few. While Birchbox has been around for a few years, I have only recently subscribed to it and, in the New Year, I decided I would start reviewing them for you lovely lot. So here’s my review of January’s Birchbox!

January’s Birchbox came with the theme “Sprinkle of Happiness”, which included a check list of tips to kick off the year with a positive and happy attitude… I thought this was really cute! I received 3 full sized products and 2 samples. Overall, I am pretty happy with the products I received but I would have liked to have seen more makeup products, as there has been in previous boxes.

Lord & Berry: Concealer Crayon

This was definitely my favourite product in the box. It came as a full sized product and in my shade. I was pleasantly surprised; as a pencil, I expected it to be quite dry, rough and generally difficult to apply, but I actually found it to be really creamy. This made it easy to apply and, also, easily blended.

I’ve used this so many times now, and has become my go-to concealer. Once it runs out, I will definitely be purchasing another.

Soigné: Nail Lacquer

Another product that I loved in this box.

The best thing, by far, was the lack of nail polish smell. “Free from chemical nasties” means no overpowering smell while trying to apply. After letting the two coats dry (quicker than other nail polishes I’ve used), it leaves a glossy look which lasts and doesn’t chip easily.

Overall, another product that I would buy again, perhaps in different shades.

Merci Handy: Hand Cream

At 30ml, this product is full-sized. This is perfect for carrying around with you when you need to moisturise your hands on the go, but I do feel this could be a little bigger.

The ‘Flower Power’ scent and creamy texture leaves a light floral scent and hands that aren’t too greasy once rubbed in. The tiny pearls do act as a type of scrub, leaving your hands feeling refreshed and revived.

Overall, a product I would consider buying again for it’s price but I have others I would choose in favour.

Kebelo: Shampoo

I am not overwhelmed with this product. As a clarifying shampoo, it’s supposed to “deep cleansing and rejuvenating”. In all honesty, I’ve used this a couple of times and not noticed much difference in my hair. It’s probably working, but not with a noticeable difference.

However, I am not one who uses heat and styling products on my hair on a daily basis so this, of course, could be the reason.

Personally, not a product that I would buy full size.

Vita Coco: Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is one of those products; you either like it or you don’t. Personally, it isn’t something I’ve ever used before and am still yet to try.

However, the great thing about it is that it has so many uses; from cooking to skincare to hair treatment. Having not used it before, it’s not the first thing I think of and so forget that it’s there to use. Saying that, I have been suffering from dry skin recently so I might give this a try!
